Railfreight traffic from China to EU perform up to 80 trains per month

Railfreight traffic between Asia and Europe continues to grow. Around 878,000 teu were transported on the New Silk Road’s various rail corridors in 2020. The International Union of Railways (UIC) assumes that this figure could double by 2025.

Metrans is also benefiting from the trend. The HHLA subsidiary handled around 30,000 teu or 913 China trains in 2020, 114% more than the previous year.

Currently, 60 to 80 Metrans trains run monthly between Europe and Chinese economic centres such as Zhengzhou, Xi’an and Jinhua.

Together with partners in China, Metrans assembles the block trains, which are handed over to a traction operator at the Malaszewicze border terminal in Poland and the Dobra terminal in Slovakia for onward transport.
