Cathay Pacific and Lufthansa Cargo have expanded their joint cargo arrangements
The partnership has allowed customers to book cargo space on flights operated by Cathay and Lufthansa from Hong Kong to Europe since February 2017, but has only recently been cleared to accept shipments in the other direction.
“We are pleased that our joint customers will now be able to take full advantage of our partnership,” says Lufthansa Cargo chairman and chief executive Peter Gerber. “Together we can make air cargo even more appealing.”
Initial cooperation between Lufthansa and Cathay created in May 2016
Both carriers signed their initial co-operation agreement in May 2016, and since then have worked on IT and service enhancements across their operations. They have also introduced joint cargo handling facilities in Hong Kong and Frankfurt.
The carriers had expected to receive clearance to jointly handle eastbound shipments in 2018, but this appears to have been delayed slightly.
The expanded arrangement covers 280 direct flights each week between Hong Kong and Europe, both on dedicated freighter jets and bellyhold capacity on passenger services, and road feeder services on both ends.
