The Marcopolo 188 barge, loaded with hundreds of containers and towed by the tug boat Mega Daya 43, almost sank in the waters of Karimun Regency, Riau Islands (Kepri), Indonesia.

Early in the morning (around 01:00 Western Indonesian Time) on 26 May, several containers fell into the sea, because the barge suddenly tilted. “While crossing Karimun waters at around 01.00 WIB, the barge was hit by a strong wind so that the ship’s position was tilted 60 degrees,” confirmed the head of the Tanjungpinang National SAR Agency Office, Slamet Riyadi, who said that 12 containers fell into the sea.

The tug and the barge were en route from the Perawang Siak Container Terminal to Singapore. Slamet Riyadi noted that the barge has been moved and is currently anchoring in the waters of Karimun Anak.

In addition, there were no casualties in this incident with all eight crew members remaining safe, according to Slamet Riyadi.

As we can see in the following footage, the seafarers and the local authorities made attempts to pull the containers out of the water.
