Danish container carrier Maersk Line has announced they will cut 4.000 staff of their 23.000 land based jobs towards the end of 2017 as digitalization and organizational changes are implemented thus realizing major cost-cuts.
CEO Sören Skou stated the decision was a tough one but necessary to maintain the market leadership position of Maersk Line. “We are fewer people today than a year ago. We will be fewer next year and the following year. These decisions are not taken lightly, but they are necessary steps to transform our industry,”
Maersk Line announced it would reduce their annual administration costs by us$250 million over a two-year period, with the first US $150 million reflecting in its 2016 financial results.
